The rhythm of our day
With a strong daily rhythm, our days are infused with songs, games, poetry, process art, adventures, focused skill learning, exploration, storytelling, and most importantly: play.
Our flowing activities are designed to practice as many core routines as possible by tapping into child passions to cultivate connection with natural learning.
Below is an idea of our daily rhythm. Starting and ending times for these are dynamic and will change based on the needs of the children attending. In other words, we don’t go by the clock.
9:45 - 10am: Arrival
10:15 - 10:45am: Morning Gathering (Outside)
- Drum circle/Music
- Forest games/team building/movement activity
- Discuss the day's plan, safety reminders, and any announcements or offerings on the schedule.
10:45-11:45 am: Outdoor, active projects: We venture into the forest to explore topics from the book of nature, build and cook over a fire, practice survival skills, track animals and practice the art of questioning, conduct experiments, explore project offerings, or support the learners in creating their own learning projects.
11:45ish - 12:30pm: Lunch, Unstructured Free play, optional playshops: We picnic on the ground and then the children will usually head to the mud kitchen, sports container, or loose parts area to initiate their group games. Many times, children will bring learning experiences or projects from home that they lead and share with others who are interested. We call these “playshops”.
12:30-12:45: Afternoon Regroup or Individual Check Ins
12:45 - 1:45 pm: Afternoon offerings: These may be adult or child led, new or recurring, collaborative or individual. These are planned in advance based on interests of the kids.
1:40- 1:50pm: Clean up/pack up
1:50 -2pm: Gratitude circle, reflection, ceremonies
